Through the kindness of Fr. Francois Dufour , SDB Provincial in South Africa, we have been provided with photographs and details of many Salesians who are working in his Province. I sent him a list of as many SHRIGLEY PAST PUPILS and STAFF, as I could recall, plus Confreres who were members of the erst-while ANGLO-IRISH PROVINCE. Many of our SA members will remember these either as colleagues and confreres, whilst Boys and Staff at Shrigley or in other Salesian Houses when lived and worked in the same Community.
Here is the List I sent to Fr. Francois. (I have been able to find Shrigley dates for only some of these...)

The 9th of September the Salesian community of Don Bosco Utume celebrate Fr Eugene's Golden Jubilee with all the Salesian Communities of Nairobi (4) and Makuyu. It was a festive event attended by Fr Joseph (Provincial), Salesians (priests 11, clerics 49 and brothers 5) also present the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, FMA novices, SDB prenovices, youth and friends.
The litury celebration was beautifully animated, solemn and vibrant with a uplifting homily given by Fr Eugene. The whole celebration was a thanksgiving to God who has been faithful to Eugene, the help of our lady and the salesians (confrere). Jesus has gazed (looked at him) ever since. The liturgical celebration was followed by a 5 star supper and live entertainment presented by confreres. The speeches (praising him for making an impact in Eastern African province within a short space of time) kind of made Eugene a bit embarassed. He jokingly stated that if he can take it all to himself he can be too proud thus block his ambition for Heaven (to see the beatic vision). An example for all who call themselves Christians. He thanked all who have contributed in shaping his character.
Here are some pics, let me allow them to speak for themselves. |

From: "Francois Dufour" To: "Francois Dufour" Sent: Friday, August 28, 2009 Subject: Jubilarian Triplets I had the privilege of having lunch on this feast of St Augustine with three of AFM's most senior confreres at Robertsham Parish. Between the three of them, they total 240 years of life, 180 years of life as SDBs, and still going strong, doing an honest day's work. Fr John Coleman - 79, celebrates his diamond jubilee of profession in 10 days time and golden jubilee of priesthood next year. Fr Michael Power - 80, celebrate his golden jubilee of priesthood in June and will celebrate his diamond jubilee of profession in 10 days time. |
